Spot Lighting at Mapleton Falls

Tue 23rd Apr. 6pm – 8pm. Meeting Point: Mapleton Falls National Park carpark. Experience the thrill of witnessing elusive nocturnal creatures like the greater glider, powerful owl, and sugar glider come to life under the cover of darkness. Night spotlighting offers a unique opportunity to observe their fascinating behaviours in their natural habitat, providing an educational and awe-inspiring glimpse into the hidden world of nocturnal wildlife.

Important: Medium fitness level is required, Best for ages 14+. Bring: torch, enclosed shoes, long pants, bug spray, water

Anzac Day – Lest we forget

Thu 25th Apr. ANZAC, derived from Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, commemorates the 25th of April, officially designated Anzac Day in 1916. Originating from the 1915 Gallipoli campaign, where Australian and New Zealand soldiers, known as Anzacs, faced staunch resistance, the day now symbolizes remembrance for all Australians lost in military operations, with a particular focus on the sacrifices made during World War I, where over 8,000 Australian soldiers lost their lives in the campaign.

Mapleton History Group

Mon 29th Apr. 5:30pm – 7:30pm. The Green Room, the Mapleton Public House. The bar will be open for the purchase of drinks. Light snacks will be provided.
A gold coin donation is appreciated.

The Mapleton History Group meets as a sub-group of Talking Country – Building Bridges which was formed with the aim of helping to provide a
deeper understanding of Australian history and culture.

A talk and discussion is based on selected readings about both positive and negative interactions between settlers and First Nations people.

World Environment Day

Wed 5th Jun. This year, join millions around the world on World Environment Day, the biggest international day for our planet! Held annually on June 5th, this year’s theme is close to home: Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience.

Hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, World Environment Day 2024 aligns perfectly with the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. This ten-year initiative aims to heal our planet’s ecosystems, a vital step towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Bird Survey – Citizen Science

Fri 21st Jun. 7.30am (for approx 90mins) at the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve. Come on a rainforest walk with a purpose! Bird enthusiast Rob Kernot facilitates the early morning seasonal bird surveys. This repeated citizen science event is an opportunity to contribute to an understanding of what birds frequent the reserve at different times of the year.

Maleny Arts Council: Puccini’s Women

Sun 30th Jun. Maleny Community Centre, 2.00pm. This one-woman-show is a hot-blooded hybrid of drama and operatic recital. It paints the lust, romance, jealousy and passion of Puccini’s real-life love affairs and dramatically links his real-life women with the infamous “suffering heroines” portrayed in his opera masterpieces. Maleny Arts Council: Piers Lane performs Chopin’s Nocturns

Fri 19th Jul. London-based Australian pianist Piers Lane has a worldwide reputation as an engaging, searching and highly versatile performer, at home equally in solo, chamber, and concerto repertoire. Five times soloist at the BBC Proms, his wide-ranging concerto repertoire exceeds one hundred works and has led to engagements with many of the world’s great orchestras. Wuthering Heights of Mapleton

Sun 28th July 2024. Lilyponds, Mapleton. The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever is a fun and inclusive event that celebrates Kate Bush’s music while raising money for charity. The event is run by volunteers on a non-profit or for-charity basis and takes place annually in various cities worldwide. The event is open to everyone and is a great way to bring people together to celebrate music and raise money for a good cause.

National Tree Day

Sun 28th July 2024. Established in 1996, Planet Ark’s National Tree Day has grown into Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature care event. The program is a call to action for all Australians to get their hands dirty and give back to their community.

Each year, around 300,000 people volunteer their time to engage in environmental activities that educate Australians about the world around them. While every day can be Tree Day, we dedicate celebration of Schools Tree Day and National Tree Day to the last Friday and last Sunday in July.

Blackall 100

Fri 19th Oct. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, starting in Mapleton, this is a trail ultra-marathon that traverses the beautiful and scenic Great Walk of the Sunshine Coast. The event is open to runners and walkers with distances of 100 kilometres and 50 kilometres.

Day for Daniel

Fri 25th Oct. Join us in commemorating the annual Day for Daniel, held on the last Friday of October, as we pay tribute to the memory of Daniel Morcombe.

On this significant day, we invite all community members to unite by wearing red, educating themselves and others, and making a difference through donations. It’s a day dedicated to fostering conversations about personal safety between parents, caregivers, and educators with children and young people.

Remembrance Day – Lest we forget

Mon 11th Nov. Remembrance Day, also known as Poppy Day, is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states and other countries to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty. 

Rembrance Day is observed on 11 November, commemorating the armistice signed on that day in 1918. Evolving from Armistice Day, initially observed at Buckingham Palace in 1919, Remembrance Day gained prominence during the Second World War, leading to its adoption by the Commonwealth nations, while the United States chose to observe Veterans Day.

Mapleton Community Crop Swap

Wed 20th Nov. Crop Swap runs all months of the year, including holiday season, on the 3rd Wednesday from 9.00 a.m. at the TOSH pavilion. The best way to remain up to date with happenings is always by regularly attending the meet. This is a support group in a small community, and nothing can match the value of coming together in person to exchange provisions, knowledge and experiences, and enjoy each other’s company.

Sculpture on the Edge

Fri 22nd Nov – Sun 1st Dec.Sculpture on the Edge is back again for another blockbuster Sunshine Coast Sculpture Competition at Flaxton Gardens. Sculpture on the Edge is the annual sculpture event coordinated by Arts Connect Inc and held in the scenic Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

8am – 12pm at the Mapleton State School, Mapleton.

Enjoy delicious food, organic sourdough, bunya nut pesto, fresh produce, jams and chutneys, honey, handmade toys, leather, clothing, arts and crafts made with love and so much more. 
Enjoy live music while sipping on a barista made coffee.  Our local Blackall Range Lions Club will be cooking up a storm with bacon and egg rolls and sausage sizzle.

Bird Survey – Citizen Science

Mon 16th Dec. 7.00am (for approx 90mins) at the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve. Come on a rainforest walk with a purpose! Bird enthusiast Rob Kernot facilitates the early morning seasonal bird surveys. This repeated citizen science event is an opportunity to contribute to an understanding of what birds frequent the reserve at different times of the year.
