Pademelon Survey – Citizen Science

Fri 26th Jul. Join the Mary Cairncross team for their seasonal survey of the red-legged pademelons in Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve. 8.00am-9.30am. Registration required at the link.

Sunset at the Seed Forest

Fri 26th Jul. Time: 4pm to 6pm. Learn, connect and have a yarn around the fire with Joe Brisick, as he presents on how we view weeds in the landscape. The discussion will centre around weeds and colonisation: What if how we respond to crisis is part of the crisis?  Please register to attend.

Bring a picnic rug or chair, your own drinks and you’re welcome to bring nibbles for yourself or to share around!

This event is free for Barung members and by donation for non-members. Please note, public toilets are a short walk away.

This week honors the incredible volunteers of the Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) who keep communities safe. Award ceremonies will recognise outstanding volunteers in various categories. Wuthering Heights of Mapleton

Sun 28th July 2024. Lilyponds, Mapleton. The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever is a fun and inclusive event that celebrates Kate Bush’s music while raising money for charity. The event is run by volunteers on a non-profit or for-charity basis and takes place annually in various cities worldwide. The event is open to everyone and is a great way to bring people together to celebrate music and raise money for a good cause.

National Tree Day

Sun 28th July 2024. Established in 1996, Planet Ark’s National Tree Day has grown into Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature care event. The program is a call to action for all Australians to get their hands dirty and give back to their community.

Each year, around 300,000 people volunteer their time to engage in environmental activities that educate Australians about the world around them. While every day can be Tree Day, we dedicate celebration of Schools Tree Day and National Tree Day to the last Friday and last Sunday in July.

This event includes a Town Hall meeting and 15-minute sessions with Ministers. Share your ideas to improve the Sunshine Coast by requesting a meeting or registering for the Town Hall. Bird Survey – Citizen Science

Mon 21st Sep. 7.30am (for approx 90mins) at the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve. Come on a rainforest walk with a purpose! Bird enthusiast Rob Kernot facilitates the early morning seasonal bird surveys. This repeated citizen science event is an opportunity to contribute to an understanding of what birds frequent the reserve at different times of the year.

Lions Welcome to the Hinterland Dinner

Wed 16th Oct. The Blackall Range Lions “Welcome to the Hinterland Dinner” is held on the 3rd Wednesday in October at Flaxton Gardens where they invite the new residents to the Blackall Range Communities to come along and meet representatives from some of our local businesses and community organisations while enjoying great food and company.

Fri 19th Oct. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, starting in Mapleton, this is a trail ultra-marathon that traverses the beautiful and scenic Great Walk of the Sunshine Coast. The event is open to runners and walkers with distances of 100 kilometres and 50 kilometres.

Day for Daniel

Remembrance Day – Lest we forget

Mon 11th Nov. Remembrance Day, also known as Poppy Day, is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states and other countries to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty. 

Rembrance Day is observed on 11 November, commemorating the armistice signed on that day in 1918. Evolving from Armistice Day, initially observed at Buckingham Palace in 1919, Remembrance Day gained prominence during the Second World War, leading to its adoption by the Commonwealth nations, while the United States chose to observe Veterans Day.

Sculpture on the Edge
